wwu give day

Giveday is almost here in T- minus 2 days!

We are very excited to start off upcoming events with Give Day. Join us on May 25th for Western's 8th annual Give Day. The idea of Give Day is to simply give back to the community! Your donations aim to help support Western students gain the opportunity to receive scholarships that help them achieve academic and financial success. Your donation will also help support events for marketing students such as the Holiday Social, and the Agency Event. These incredible events create amazing opportunities for current students to network and forge connections with our esteemed Western Alumni.

It’s also a very exciting time for the departments at Western as it brings “competition” amongst each department in which they try to raise as much funding as possible. The marketing department is proud to announce that they remain top 5 of all the programs in raising funds on Give Day. If you donate, make sure to give directly to the marketing department to support all these amazing opportunities!

Agency Event

The Seattle Agency Event, also known as the Career Launch is an event that took place in Seattle last November. Many CBE students from WWU, faculty, and alumni attended this event that was held at Rooftop Brewing. The intention behind the event was to connect students with successful professionals from large companies. The Agency Event was a day full of personal development for students. Students got the opportunity to participate in a resume workshop where they edited their resumes as they were proofread by professionals. Followed by the Alumni Holiday Social where students got the opportunity to chat and connect with WWU alumni. The Career was a memorable day for those who attended.

Scholarship Recipients

Give Day is a special time of the year, one in which many alumni give back to Western. 50% of your donations go towards funding future events in the marketing program like the Career Launch, while the other 50% gets goes towards scholarships. There were a few students here in the marketing program who received scholarships for the following year! Thanks to alumni and friends, the marketing department was able to make this all happen for the students. Marketing students Glory Burford and Anu Domingo were one of the few to receive a scholarship from Give Day. Here’s what these two scholarship recipients have to say about receiving the scholarships!.

Glory Burford

"During my time in the marketing program, I have learned more than I ever expected to. My confidence in my marketing and leadership abilities has grown so much thanks to the support from amazing professors and peers. This scholarship is a wonderful affirmation that I am a valued part of this program and that I belong here. I'm incredibly thankful to all the give day donors who stay invested in student success! I hope that after I graduate and build a career I will also be able to give back to the program that has done so much for me." - Glory Burford

Anu Domingo

"My name is Anu Domingo; born and raised in Seattle, Washington. I love everything the PNW offers and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon! I have been a Western Washington University student for three years and am pursuing a marketing degree with a minor in sports psychology. Once I have graduated, I aim to work at Microsoft and in the sports apparel industry as a marketer.” - Anu Domingo

What is one of your favorite memories from the marketing program at western?

"I enjoy the community that you make within the marketing department. I have always felt welcomed and accepted, even with my severe learning disability. Even though marketing 381 and 382 were very demanding, I was lucky enough to be a part of a fantastic team! We got a lot of hard work done but also had a lot of laughs along the way." - Anu Domingo

Have any teachers stood out and helped you on your journey as a marketer?

"Dan Purdy is the OG—one of the best professors I have ever had. I describe him as the football coach of marketing. He encourages his students to grow to their maximum potential by preparing us for the real world and showing us that you can give tough love and be compassionate and caring. He is extremely knowledgeable not only in marketing but other topics! Not only did he help me with marketing and many other educational questions (even questions on subjects he did not teach), but he also helped me tremendously when I was struggling with my personal and mental health. Excited to take my next class with him winter quarter!" - Anu Domingo

What impact has the marketing scholarship had on your academic journey at WWU?

"Receiving the marketing scholarship has had a substantial positive impact on my experience here at Western. I put a lot of hard work and effort into school, and seeing that effort pay off is very motivating. Not only will this scholarship allow me to further my educational career, but it will provide me with some peace of mind and give me the ability to flourish even more in the marketing department." - Anu Domingo

Why should people reading this donate on Give Day?

"I am grateful for the opportunities I have received and aspire to give back to my community in the same impactful way. Donating even just a few dollars allows the next generation to advance their knowledge and grow as individuals. Receiving this scholarship has provided me with the necessary resources to get one step closer to my goals. The support from the marketing department and people who donate on give day increases my confidence that I will make a meaningful and positive impact on others and society." - Anu Domingo
