Meet Rebecca Andrews

Rebecca Joelle Andrews, known professionally as Drew, is an outstanding, well-spoken alumni of Western Washington University, who graduated in December 2023. Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, she has called the Birch Bay / Bellingham area home since the age of 7.

Drew is the founder of ReDrew Innovations, her own marketing agency established during her time in the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) program. As a sole proprietor, she is currently engaged with two clients, providing services such as PowerPoint Deck creation, WordPress website design, and exploring opportunities in social media management!

Recognized for her expertise as the former Social Media Manager for the WWU Marketing Program, Drew was invited to be a panelist at the IMC Pitch Night. Actively involved in IMC Networking Nights and various program initiatives, she remains dedicated to supporting and enhancing the marketing program experience for current students.

"I was asked at the beginning of the quarter to be a panelist at the IMC pitch day because of my experience being the Social Media Manager for the WWU Marketing Program for 1+ years. I also go to the biweekly IMC Networking Nights because of my history of being in IMC for a full academic year! I like to help the Marketing Program wherever from helping with IMC content creator projects to participating in a focus group this Monday because I had such a wonderful time in the marketing program. I was supported by so many in the program that I want to help out others in return so they have a great experience, too!"

"I have benefitted by making new connections and relationships. Connections with peers where we discuss our challenges, trade tips, and job opportunities."

How Important is Storytelling in Marketing?

Understanding the story is always critical. But when you are talking about product strategy, it is not as important. However, if we're talking about communication strategy, telling the story about your product such as the killer app for your customer, then it's essential.

You need to think about how your product is the "Excalibur", the "magic wand" or the sidekick to your client. Whatever it is, your product is what's going to let your client, the main protagonist, achieve their goals and break through.

You also need to understand the awareness and knowledge behind your product. If you've got something which is foreign to the majority of consumers, you need to take this account. People will often say we want to be the Uber of, or the Airbnb of whatever because people understand what Uber and Airbnb are.  When we are trying to communicate a foreign concept, storytelling becomes even more important and powerful because this allows for people to gravitate towards your product.
