Holiday Mixer
After the Career launch, we switched gears and started the Holiday Mixer at Pike Brewing Company where there was great food, great drinks, and an electric atmosphere. We were joined by more alumni and students who couldn't make it to the career launch, we're so grateful for everyone else who came. Here everyone was able to talk and mingle more, catch up with old friends, and meet new people. That same night, the UW Huskies beat Oregon Ducks, winning the Pac-12 Championship so it was really great to be in Seattle for that. So many marketing alumni gave great advice to the students on how to interview for jobs, find out what they're interested in, and navigate their career.
We would like to express our appreciation to all the alumni who showed up to the mixer, as well as the guests and panelists who stayed with us till the end. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and to everyone who didn't have a chance to attend this event, be on the lookout for next year's event in the next team's newsletter or on the Marketing Program social media!

Network Night
This last Wednesday the executive team hosted our last network night of the quarter at Schweinhaus Biergarten per usual. Dan Purdy along with many students in IMC all came out for one final goodbye before the fall quarter ends. We celebrated our hard work and newly soon-to-be graduating students. In addition to all of the celebrations, Dan Purdy also announced the upcoming Winter 2024 executive team members and our six new product managers, three of whom are from the Marketing Messenger team. Our next team of product managers are Jaime Bui, Justin Casper, Mia Crum, Jazmin Muratalla-Sanchez, Cailin Thompson, and Fred Warfield.

Upcoming Marketing Events
Please look forward to next quarter for the next newsletter that will be developed by an entirely new team!

With the marketing industry changing, do you think classes taken a couple years ago are still used in today's environment?“Oh 100%. I think every single thing you learn in school is a fantastic foundation to take you to your career. And once you're actually in your career you're going to use those things that you learned in school and you're going to apply them. " |
What skills did you learn at Western to apply to your job?
" I think the things I learned the most at Western is the foundations. Understanding how important it is for brand messaging and being able to take that messaging and spread it across platforms. Once I'm actually within the job I had to take it upon myself to learn how that applies to the company I'm actually working for. Being able to have that foundation that Western taught me and understanding all those key elements to marketing, and being able to actually apply them is what I learned on the job. "
What's your favorite snow-based activity?
" I used to ski all the time as a kid on the weekends. And then I took a break for a while and I didn't ski for a long time, and in the last couple years I've picked it up again. So definitely skiing. "

Student Spotlight: Jovani Ramirez
Jovani is a senior that will be graduating in December 2023 with a major in Marketing and minor in International Business.
"In my free time I enjoy taking photos or watching movies. I’ve shot photography professionally for a few years now and although I don’t do much client work anymore, I still try to get out and take photos when I can. I also very much enjoy watching movies. It was activity my siblings and I did a lot when I was growing up, so it has a special place in my heart. Over the years I have collected about 200+ Blu-ray movies."
Why did you choose to be a part of WWU Marketing program?
"I am in the marketing program at WWU because I knew from the start of my college career that I wanted to do something with business but had a curiosity to do something creative as well. The marketing program seemed like the perfect program to learn the skills I needed to be able to apply both of those interests into a future career."

What is a moment you would consider to be significant in your WWU Marketing experience?
"Not long ago the marketing program had an advisory board meeting and after the meeting ended, they allowed students to meet the advisory board members and connect with them. I felt as though I was getting to network with people who were eager and willing to help students but also felt like I was representing the marketing department on behalf of all its students. For many of the students and advisory board members, it was their first time meeting, and having a good first impression seemed important. I was very thankful to receive the opportunity to meet such wonderful people and also felt proud to be a part of this fantastic program."
