CBE Faculty Awards

The Murphy and Merrifield Awards recognize the excellence in scholarship conducted by members of the College of Business and Economics while honoring the Colleges long-time Dean, Dr. Dennis Murphy, and its long-time Director of the Center for Economic and Business Research, Dr. David Merrifield.

The David Merrifield Research Award

This award honors faculty members who have published research that meets the following criteria that Dr. Merrifield strove to meet:

  • The research should have a clear potential for improving people's lives, with direct implications for public policy or business decisions;
  • The research should be of high quality and meet rigorous standards of integrity;
  • Other things equal, research including the following criteria will be weighted more strongly:
    • Relevance to the region;
    • Focus outside of the author's primary area of specialization;
    • Co-authored
    • Of direct benefit to students, such as:
      • Collaboration with students
      • Improvements to classroom instruction

The Dennis R. Murphy Research Award

This award recognizes outstanding research conducted by faculty members in the College of Business and Economics.

Allete and Cayden Franklin Excellence in Teaching Award

The College of Business and Economics Chase Franklin Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes faculty members who have successfully designed and implemented a teaching-related activity or project to enhance student learning in the area of business and/or economics.

David L. Bradford Outstanding Educator by the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society (OBTS).

Joe Garcia Professor of Management has been named thew 2017 David L. Bradford Outstanding Educator by the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society (OBTS). The award acknowledges one person or teaching team with consistently demonstrated achievement over a lifetime.
