What Is CBE Peer Mentoring?
The CBE Peer Mentoring Program is a network of students in the College of Business and Economics who foster supportive and inclusive mentoring relationships with newer students interested in pursuing a business degree through one-to-one and small and large group events. This program benefits both the mentor and mentee in ways intended to promote personal and professional development and deeper connection to the WWU and CBE community. This program is designed to increase equitable access and true belonging to all.
"The events are really fun and a great way to connect with peers. I also have really loved the weekly chats with my mentee and talking about things we can both relate to."

Frequently Asked Questions for Mentors
Mentors are students who have declared a major in the College of Business and Economics and are in good academic standing. This role will be supported to facilitate mentor development. We will provide mentors with resources to cultivate a positive mentoring experience for both mentor and mentee.
Mentorship is impactful! Because mentors are farther along in the CBE degree path, they are able to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to a less experienced student. Mentors are provided with a chance to extend their network of campus colleagues and share what they've learned as an active student in the college! Also, research shows that being a mentor goes beyond the rewarding feeling of giving back, it also encourages personal development in communication, self-confidence, and leadership skills.
Mentors and mentees can expect to connect about one hour per week. Matches come to agreement on the best ways to connect that meets the needs of both parties based on availability, interests, and needs. All of these things can change over time! Participants are expected to come into their match relationship with respect, commitment, curiosity, and openness to sharing. Be prepared for this relationship to be an exchange- you will learn from each other!
Mentors are awesome guides and companions but they are not prepared or expected to act as tutor, therapist, academic advisor or counselor. If mentees have serious concerns, they should be directed to staff facilitators to find appropriate resources and support. Mentors can always turn to staff with any situation that may arise.
Frequently Asked Questions for Mentees
Any student can become a mentee! Business interest students, freshmen, and transfer students may find this program especially beneficial. Being a mentee is a great way to become familiar with the WWU campus and participate in the CBE community from the get-go!
Entering a new school environment is a lot to figure out! Why should you have to do it on your own when there are students who have gone through the same transition and have some good tips and know some really fun people? Being a mentee provides easier access to our college community, resources, clubs, academic support and more.

"Talking with others within the CBE really helps me get a better idea on the options I have for advancing within both college and my career. Meeting with others over fun activities and specifically talking about our shared career interest is my favorite type of networking."
